Basic Life Support Course – BLS Certification
BASIC LIFE SUPPORT COURSE ONLINE
Our basic life support course covers medical emergencies, basic life support skills and includes skills for adults, children and infants for dentists and people working in dental practices. The course includes safety precautions, initial assessment, recovery position, CPR, compression-only CPR, CPR handover, choking. This BLS course complies with the latest ERC and UK Resuscitation Council Guidelines as well as the General Dental Council recommendations. Students who undertake our online dental nursing course are also required to have the BLS certificate before taking the exams.
WHAT IS BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)?
Basic Life Support is a set of basic life saving first aid techniques. The Resuscitation Council (UK) produces a set of guidelines for first aiders to administer Basic Life Support if needed which covers:
- Safe management of an incident or accident
- Dealing with a choking casualty both mild and severe
- Using an Automated External Defibrillator if one is available
- Dealing with an unresponsive or non breathing casualty

Basic Life Support Course
BLS Certification- Members will receive a Basic Life Support certificate once they complete the course.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT COURSE MODULES
- Fainting – Learners will be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of a faint in patients attending dental treatment. Respond immediately to a patient suffering from a faint. Provide appropriate care for a patient following practice protocols.
- Recovery Position – Learners will be able to demonstrate Basic life support procedures and resuscitation techniques. Put the casualty into the recovery position. Actions to take during a medical emergency. Check for responsiveness using the AVPU abbreviation.
- Unresponsive Casualty – Learners will be able to demonstrate the actions that they need to take during an unresponsive casualty medical emergency. Basic life support procedures techniques for different age groups of patients. Responsiveness using the AVPU abbreviation.
- ABC Survey – Learners will be able to provide ABC assessment – Airway, Breathing and Circulation. Primary and Secondary surveys.
- Choking – Learners will be able to demonstrate Basic life support procedures. Actions to take during a choking medical emergency. Different actions taken with adult and children patients.
- Anaphylactic Shock – Learners will be able to demonstrate the actions that they need to take during an anaphylactic shock medical emergency. Basic life support procedures techniques. Causes for the anaphylactic shock.
- RIDDOR – Learners will be able to recognise the significance of reporting health and safety issues after completing this BLS course. Recognise the reporting procedures followed and the ways in which the company uses the data acquired to assist in risk management. Raise safety and health issues. Describe each person’s role in reporting events, illness, and “near misses.”
